Sometimes unexpected situations occur and unplanned things happen. So, unlike other companies, we don't try to lock you into any lengthy contracts. Instead, you simply decide which of our services you need and pay for them as necessary. You can stop making appointments when you no longer require our services rather than paying for 6 months or a year's worth of sessions that you will not attend.

Which is better between online and in-person tutoring?Traditional in-person tutoring is far less flexible and less convenient than online tutoring. With online tutoring there is no need to travel to your tutoring session, and as long as you have access to the Internet, you may work from almost anyplace. Therefore, you do not have to miss a tutoring session even if you are traveling. Additionally, online tutoring offers more educational versatility. In other words, you can access a variety of courses and trained, experienced tutors who may not otherwise be accessible to you.

How frequently should I attend tutoring?Because each student's information is reviewed and addressed on an individual basis, this question is difficult to answer without first assessing the information you provide us with. However, we generally advise students to attend tutoring at least twice a week. So, the amount of time and effort you put into getting the help you need will largely determine how quickly your English language skills improve.

What degrees or qualifications do your tutors have?In addition to being required to possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university, there is a list of additional prerequisites that prospective tutors must meet when applying to work with us. You will be provided with such information about your tutor, including his or her educational background and teaching/tutoring experience, once you have been assigned a tutor. Should I expect my tutor to come to my home?Our tutors typically work online. However, if you prefer to meet in-person, then we can make arrangements for you all to meet at a mutually convenient public location within our service region.

Do you conduct criminal background checks on your tutors?Yes. Because all of our tutors must pass a rigorous, 7-year criminal background check, you can rest assured that they are free of any convictions and be confident about working with them.

Does Gateway ESL offer any payment plans?No. We do not offer any payment plans. All tutoring sessions are booked on per-session(s) basis and payment must be submitted to us by way of the Gateway ESL website at the time of booking. If you desire to pre-book multiple sessions that will occur on different days and times, then you may do so directly through our website by selecting the desired dates and times, and then submitting your payment at that time. If you are unable to book your desired session(s) through the Gateway ESL website, then you may use the Contact page on our website to send us your request and we will be happy to assist you. In such cases, we will consult with you privately and then electronically send you an authorization form confirming your commitment to pay for the desired sessions, followed by an invoice for the total amount due.

Which payment options do you accept?As stated in our Payment Policies, we accept all of the major credit cards (e.g., MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and Visa) as well as PayPal. We do not accept cash, personal checks, money orders, or cashier's checks.

Can I pay or tip my tutor?When you are pleased with your tutor and want to express your gratitude by giving them gifts, we can understand that. However, no forms of monetary gifts, including cash, checks, money orders, and gift cards, are acceptable. Additionally, no payments should ever be given to a tutor.

What should I do if I have to cancel a scheduled tutoring session?As stated in the Cancellations section of our Pricing and Payment Policies, all cancellation requests must be submitted to our office at least twenty-four (24) hours before the scheduled session. Your prompt cancellation enables us to alter our tutors' schedules as necessary. We kindly ask that you call or send us a message at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance if you need to cancel a session. A $30 cancellation fee will be charged for any cancellations made less than twenty-four (24) hours before the booked session. If you fail to inform us of your cancellation, you will be charged for the full amount for the session.
